Animal Shelter Operations - Embracing Change to Modernize Animal Welfare

In this course participants will learn about the York County SPCA’s enhanced animal welfare efforts and journey to no-kill status. The course covers key shelter operations, current challenges, and the emotional and financial burdens of the industry. Through impactful stories and insights, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the shelter's transformation. The class concludes with a behind-the-scenes tour of the York County SPCA facility
Class will be held at 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York PA 17406. The conference room tends to be warm, so please dress in layers.
Kari Herchelroth
Kari Herchelroth, a 2003 Wilson College graduate in Veterinary Medical Technology, was named 2017 Certified Veterinary Technician of the Year by the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association. She worked in small animal practice (2003-2012) before developing and leading YTI Career Institute's Veterinary Technician Program (2012-2019), guiding it through AVMA accreditation. Now Operations Director at the York County SPCA, Kari oversees 35 staff and has played a key role in the organization's modernization and growth over the past five years.
