The Science of Nuclear Energy

Course | Registration opens 8/4/2025 8:00 AM EST

An examination of the science of nuclear reactions and how it is used in constructing a nuclear power plant will be presented. Designed for the layperson, the basic principles of nuclear energy will be explained. Using short videos, pictures, and animations, a detailed account of the accidents at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima will be investigated. A discussion of the pros and cons of nuclear energy and the future of nuclear power as an energy source will conclude the program.


Robert Moreland

Robert Moreland is a retired high school teacher. He taught chemistry at Dallastown Area High School for thirty-five years and also was an adjunct member of the chemistry department at York College of Pennsylvania for thirty years. He currently enjoys tending his small vineyard and making wine at his home in Seven Valleys.
