Foundations of Astronomy (Repeat with no changes)

This course seeks to teach and develop beginner astronomical and astrophysical concepts, including the history of astronomy, how telescopes work, understanding the solar system, the lifecycle of stars, and the scale of the universe. In addition, students will learn the fundamental concepts of spacetime, gravity, and the Big Bang. The material covered includes contributions from Galileo, Copernicus, Newton, Einstein, Henrietta Swan Leavitt, Cecilia Payne, and Andrea Ghez.  


Lydell Nunn

Dr. Lydell Nunn is a practicing chiropractor in York, Pennsylvania. Having developed a childhood fascination with astronomy, Dr. Nunn began pursuing astrophotography as a hobby in 2017. Dr. Nunn’s interest in astronomy continued to grow over the next few years. In 2019, he enrolled in the American Public University System’s (APU) master’s degree program in Space Studies with an astronomy concentration and completed the degree in February 2021. In the summer of 2020, Dr. Nunn completed construction on a backyard observatory, which he uses for public education and community outreach.
