Active Allyship: Supporting LGBTQIA+ Neighbors & Family

How can we support and accompany the LGBTQIA+ people in our community? After a brief review of the latest in best practice vocabulary and research, we will learn available supports, practical resources, lived realities, and requests for advocacy inspired by those in the national and local LGBTQIA+ community and those who know and love them. Introductions to nonviolent communication, restorative justice, and other practices for healthy and helpful conversation and dialogue across differences will also be covered.
Carla Christopher
Carla Christopher is a former Poet Laureate of York, co-founder of York Equality Fest (now the Rainbow Rose Center) and a two-time key to York City recipient for her community initiatives. A diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging trainer and speaker-consultant with a social work background, Christopher has supported Central PA school districts and institutions of higher ed, nonprofits, and small businesses in relationship building across differences. Also, an ordained ELCA Lutheran pastor, Christopher currently serves as assistant to the Bishop for Justice Ministries for the Central PA region.
