Course | Registration opens 8/4/2025 8:00 AM EDT
This year marks the 200th Anniversary of a significant achievement by a York County innovator. In 1825 circumstances allowed John Elgar to realize his vision of building an iron-hulled steamboat. Elgar was a humble York County Quaker and did not engage in self-promotion, such as was done by Robert Fulton for his wood-hulled steamboat. Only eighty years ago, Elgar began to achieve wider recognition as the originator of metal-hulled shipbuilding in America. Learn the interesting story of his life and steamboat, which is interweaved with abundant York County connections.
