Students will develop fundamental skills that lead to individual, creative and expressive portfolio quality works. Assignments will range from drawing from life to the abstract. We will explore subjects such as portraiture, still life and trompe l’ceil, Mediums will include ink, colored pencil, acrylic, watercolor and graphite. Works from each students portfolio will be thoroughly critiqued. Students will learn to see and interpret each subject more deeply. Effective composition and drama through light and color will also be a focus of this course. Students will learn from each other as well as from the instructor. Guidance on what colleges and universities look for in an art student will also be discussed.

I believe in a thorough classical training. I teach from the plinth up. Once students have mastered structural and proportional goals individual strengths are encouraged and expanded.I am passionate about the unlimited creative possibilities found in each student. I Have a wide knowledge of colleges and universities and their specialties. I am able to discern the individual needs of students and am able to direct them pointedly. I am versatile with mediums that include drawing and painting, printmaking and mixed media. I am also expert in the preparation of portfolios for college and for A.P. portfolios. For me, teaching is a joy and a privilege. My teaching experience includes 28 years at Northport H.S. where I taught Studio in Art, Drawing and Painting and Advanced Placement Art. 1988-2017.
