In this 2-week studio intensive, students will develop skills that lead to expressive and creative portfolio quality works. Projects will range from an hour to a few days. Students will explore mediums such as colored pencil, acrylic, graphite and watercolor. Subjects will include the human figure, portraiture, still life and abstraction. Effective composition and drama through the use of light and color will be a focus of this course. Individual critique of new and existing artworks will be an important element in this course. Please bring a few examples of what you consider to be your best works to the first class for a critique! Guidance on what colleges and universities look for in a portfolio will also be discussed.

  • The Pre-College Portfolio Development Program will be held in the Gallery at the Art League of Long Island. All in-person classes at the Art League are arranged to allow for proper social distancing. Masks are required by all students and staff at all times.

I believe in a thorough classical training. I teach from the plinth up. Once students have mastered structural and proportional goals individual strengths are encouraged and expanded.I am passionate about the unlimited creative possibilities found in each student. I Have a wide knowledge of colleges and universities and their specialties. I am able to discern the individual needs of students and am able to direct them pointedly. I am versatile with mediums that include drawing and painting, printmaking and mixed media. I am also expert in the preparation of portfolios for college and for A.P. portfolios. For me, teaching is a joy and a privilege. My teaching experience includes 28 years at Northport H.S. where I taught Studio in Art, Drawing and Painting and Advanced Placement Art. 1988-2017.
