Discover how to let go of hesitation, tune into your inner voice, and create compelling art—fast. In this three-session workshop, graphic-novel illustrator and ink-and-watercolor instructor Jay Stuart shows you how to sketch and paint quickly without overthinking, unlocking visual ideas that may have been buried under second-guessing.

Why Take This Class?

  • Perfect for busy schedules or creatives seeking spontaneity
  • Ideal as a creative restart for those hampered by perfectionism or creative blocks
  • A fun, low-stakes way to reconnect with intuition, without fear of mistakes

  • What You’ll Explore

    • Gesture & Flow Over Precision: Fun, speed warm-up drills that train you to capture movement and expression with economy and spontaneity.
    • “Paint First, Think Later” Technique: Build confidence through layering: ink with bold strokes, then add washes without hesitation.
    • Discovering Authentic Voice: Learn to trust your intuitive lines, shadow shapes, and color rhythms rather than over-rendering details.
    • Ink & Watercolor Fundamentals: Quick demos in brush handling, water control, and media fluidity to amplify your speed practice.
    • Wrapping with a Personal Mini Masterpiece: End each week by creating a small, complete work born from your inner source of ideas.

    About the Instructor: Jay Stuart

Jay Stuart is an illustrator and self-publisher known for graphic novels, tarot art, and bold brushwork. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, he also manages Blick Art Materials in Carle Place and teaches at Westbury Arts. Jay’s approach—combining southern gothic narrative with inks, washes, and improvisation—is built to help artists find clarity in chaos.
