Symbols of Ourselves: Art Therapy & Oracle Cards with Rachel Woelfel | Sat 10-11:30am | 10/25 | Fall 2025

Workshops | Available

In this creative and therapeutic workshop, participants will be guided by psychotherapist and artist Rachel Woelfel (Creative Arts Therapist – LP) in an art-making process that blends self-reflection with symbolic imagery. Each participant will create an original piece of art that can serve as a personal tarot or oracle card, representing who they are in this moment, an emotion they are experiencing, or a symbol or memory that holds personal meaning. Therapeutic artmaking and art therapy is for everyone, where this workshop is about the process of creating the card and exploring our creativity. Various materials will be available, where participants will be able to choose between collage, acrylic paint, colored pencil, or a combination of materials. No previous art experience is required or necessary.

  • Workshop Structure:
    1. Community Rules & Grounding Exercise – Participants will set intentions for the space, and the facilitator will define the therapeutic art-making process. The workshop will begin with a guided mindfulness and grounding practice to help participants connect with themselves and the present moment.
    2. Exploring Personal Symbolism – Participants will be prompted to reflect on their current emotional state, personal identity, or a meaningful symbol to guide the creation of their card. Tarot and oracle cards will be available if participants would like to choose a card or look through examples to get inspired.
    3. Art Directive: Personal Tarot/Oracle Card – Using a variety of art materials, participants will create a card that captures their chosen symbol or essence of self in this moment. This artwork will serve as a reflective tool, much like a tarot or oracle card in a personal deck.
    4. Optional Sharing & Reflection – Participants will have the opportunity to share their creations and insights in a supportive group space, fostering connection and community.
  • Materials are included with this course.
Woelfel, Rachel
Rachel Woelfel

Rachel Woelfel is a ceramicist from Melville, NY and a graduate of Stony Brook University. Beginning as a painter, Rachel quickly adapted to ceramic sculpture, often referring to her work as “painting in 3D.” She has always been intrigued by the human form, its continued representation in art, and how it has evolved over time. As opposed to her training in the medical arts field where absolute naturalism was the goal, her own practice is about liberation and having fun interpreting the human form through color, texture, and narrative. Rachel’s teaching philosophy is based on the principle that the artist’s hand can be guided by tools and techniques to let the individual’s artistic expression shine through their artwork. As the teacher, Rachel believes she is there to spark an idea in the mind of a student with a prompt and then provide them with the technical building blocks they need to create the work that emerges in their own imagination. Even though students may be given the same prompt or assignment, Rachel ensures that each project turns out differently by encouraging students to express their individual style and empowering them to leave their fingerprints behind as signatures or personal trail on their ceramic pieces.
