Victor & Mabel D'Amico's built their modernist home, an East Hampton Historical Landmark, in the early 1940’s doing most of the construction themselves. Since WWII restricted access to building materials, they bought and deconstructed another house and reused the supplies for their bay front home. As educators they were also great learners. The skills Mabel learned, plumbing, electrical wiring, masonry, and carpentry, during construction of her home were then applied to her art making. Along with Mabel’s assemblage pieces, you will see her creative motivations set up around the house. Her colorful collection of glass objects and wooden birds that are mirrored in her found object art. The closet is full of beautifully made clothing, jewelry, and hand knitted sweaters. Her cabinet is full of paintings, collage and playful image transfer artworks.
