This welcoming oil painting class is designed for students at all levels—from true beginners to more experienced painters looking to refine their skills. Through step-by-step instruction, demonstrations, and individualized guidance, students will develop a strong foundation in drawing, composition, color mixing, and brushwork.

Students are encouraged to work from their own meaningful photographs and personal still-life objects, allowing each artist to create work that reflects their individual interests and experiences. If they choose, students may also explore painting from life through simple studio setups. Emphasis will be placed on learning to see accurately, building confident forms, and developing an expressive, personal style.

Traditional oil painting techniques such as underpainting, layering, and alla prima will be introduced, while students gain confidence in handling materials and developing their unique artistic voice. Each student works at their own pace in a supportive, inspiring studio environment.

Whether you are just beginning your artistic journey or looking to grow beyond the basics, this class offers the tools, guidance, and encouragement to help you advance with confidence.

  • All clay used in Art League ceramics classes must be purchased at the Art League. Clay purchased at the Art League cannot be brought outside of the studio. If additional time is needed to complete projects, students in a ceramics class may enroll in open studio time. Work produced in Art League classes must be constructed at a reasonable size so as to not overload the kilns. The Art League thanks its students for following guidelines to keep the kiln schedule under control so that all students receive their work back in a timely fashion.
