Day 1: Learn to create wood beads at the lathe in our woodturning studio. Begin a one-of-a-kind necklace with some colorful wood that you will transform into big beads. You’ll learn how to hold the wood on the lathe safely and securely, how to shape the beads round—and how to make multiple beads that are the same size. You’ll also apply a simple finish that will bring out the wood’s striking grain and figure.

Day 2: Take your wood bead creation a bit further by adding decorative metal bead caps in our Jewelry studio. Students will use a few simple tools to cut, texture, and dome metal to adorn their beads. Metalsmithing skills covered include: texturing, filing, using a dapping block and disc cutter. We will create 6 caps for 3 beads, and students can choose between copper (included) or sterling silver (for an additional $55).

Ages 12 and up.

  • There is a $4 registration fee included in tuition.
  • Members will have the $4 fee deducted from tuition.
  • There is a $16 materials fee that includes copper for your metal caps. You may select sterling silver instead of copper for an additional $55 at check out.
  • Class will meet in two different studios.
  • Day 1: May 1st 12-4pm in the Woodturning Studio
  • Day 2: May 2nd 12-3pm in the Jewelry Studio
