In this intermediate rigid heddle weaving class, students will learn how to use pickup sticks as well as a string heddle rod. We will go over the basics of pickup sticks, make a heddle rod for each student, and then explore many pattern variations of using the pickup sticks and heddle rod to create both warp and weft pattern floats.

Students should arrive to class with their looms already warped. Specifications for the warp will be sent out to each student prior to the class.

**Familiarity with warping a rigid heddle loom and weaving basic plain weave cloth is required**

**Students will need to bring their own rigid heddle loom, 1-2 stick shuttles, and a pickup stick or Rigid heddle looms will be available to rent if needed**

Students can use 7.5, 10, or 12.5 dent heddles. Additional pickup sticks will be available to use if needed.

  • There is a $4.00 registration fee included in tuition. Members will have the $4.00 fee deducted from tuition.
    There is a $15.00 materials fee included in tuition.

    **Please note that classes at Brookfield Craft Center must meet a minimum number of registrations for the class to run. Students will be notified within a week's notice whether their class will be held. If the class is canceled due to low enrollment, students may request to be transferred to another class or be refunded in full.

Katie Strano is fiber artist focusing on small scale production weaving, and art pieces for her business, Heddle Over Heels. She has worked with regional farmers to create handwoven pieces using their locally grown wool and fibers. In addition, she offers private weaving lessons and is also the floor loom and rigid heddle weaving instructor at Brookfield Craft Center, in Brookfield, CT.
