Working on the wheel, students will learn how to center, open, and throw clay to make bowls, mugs and plates. Students will also learn how to trim and glaze their pieces. If the choice is hand building, students will learn how to use slabs, coils and pinch pot techniques to create decorative or functional pieces.
Students will familiarize themselves with different techniques to decorate the surface of their work such as, resistance, Mishima, Sgraffito, texture, silk screen, monoprint and ways to transfer image to clay.  Come and let's have fun!

All ceramic work fired in our Electric kilns is subject to a firing fee of 5 cents per cubic inch.



  • There is a $4.00 registration fee included in tuition. Members will have the $4.00 fee deducted from tuition.
    There is a $26.00 materials fee included in tuition which includes a 25lb bag of clay.

    Additional clay may be purchased for $22.00 per bag.

    **Please note that classes at Brookfield Craft Center must meet a minimum number of registrations for the class to run. Students will be notified within a week's notice whether their class will be held. If the class is canceled due to low enrollment, students may request to be transferred to another class or be refunded in full.

Ahuja, Roberta

Roberta Ahuja was born in a small town in the western part of Sao Paulo state in Brazil. At 13 years old, she was drawing designs and painting kitchen towels for sale at charity bazaars. Roberta ignored her vocational test and her guidance counselor, who recommended that she pursue art. Instead she opted to go to Veterinary school. In 1995, she got married and moved to the megalopolis of Sao Paulo. The next 5 years she focused on her family, with the arrival of her two boys, Akash and Ravi. Itching to get back to her art, Roberta jumped on an opportunity to learn painting on ceramics learning various styles at three different studios. In 2003, the Ahuja family moved to Sandy Hook, CT. After settling in, Roberta discovered a pottery studio in Newtown and progressed in her work beyond merely painting on ceramic. In the pursuit of learning different techniques she spent a week at La Scuola d'Arte Ceramica in the capital of Majolica Ceramics, Deruta, Italy. There she studied under the world renowned artist and teacher Romano Ranieri. Today her scope of work has expanded and encompasses many styles and techniques. Egged on by her husband, Chandravir, she decided to debut at the 2nd Newtown Arts Festival in 2013, showcasing her work to the public for the first time. Encouraged by the response, she has participated in several other art shows since then. Teaching became a passion for her and today she teaches homeschool kids and adults, passing along her knowledge.
