Renaissance Inspired Watercolor Painting * Online Class*

In this six week online watercolor class, students will take their inspiration right out of 16th century manuscripts that were illuminated with incredibly detailed paintings of flora, fauna, fruits, and seeds! The first class will focus on exploring and getting comfortable with the drawing and painting techniques involved. In subsequent classes we explore the step-by-step process of creating a Renaissance inspired painting together. A PDF of our subject will be emailed to students for convenience printing.
A Zoom link will be sent to students by email prior to the start of class.
Classes meet Thursdays,10:00 - 12:00 online via Zoom
Materials Needed (see below for instructor's suggestions)
- There is a $4 registration fee included in tuition.
- Members will have the $4 fee deducted from tuition.
A $6.65 materials fee for instructor's studio materials in lesson modeling is included in the tuition.

Materials Needed for the success of our class:
Instructor recommendations
· Watercolors: please use Winsor & Newton brand. Tube or cake is fine.
· Rinse cup
· Paper towels
· Paint brushes: A variety of #2 rounds and liners in addition to a 1” flat brush.
· Mixing plate or tray
· Watercolor paper 11x15”, recommended brands include: 1264 Fabriano 140lb cold press, New York Central 100% cotton, or Strathmore 300 or 400 pound cold press.
· “H” graphite pencil
· Kneaded eraser
· A small collection of skewers or chopsticks
· Low tack tape

ShawnaLee Kwashnak
Award winning New England artist, ShawnaLee W. Kwashnak, loves animals, a warm cup of coffee, and bringing joy to others by creating Portraits of pets and people. With attention to detail, ShawnaLee strives to capture the spirit of her subjects in every work. Each piece is created entirely by hand in the time honored way using authentic artist materials and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
ShawnaLee is a Cum Laude graduate from Western Connecticut State University with a BA in Studio Art and Graphic design/Illustration and has been instructing art for over 28 years. She has served as Youth Art Director and program developer for the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, and taught at many venues as well as privately.
She is a current board member of the CT Society of Portrait Artists, a member of SCAN, WAA and also the Richter Association for the arts. Her work has garnered numerous awards including An Award of Excellence from the Richter, Newtown Savings Bank Award from SCAN, recent feature articles in Northeast Equestrian Magazine & Middlebury Magazine as well as the Susan Wakeen Studio Art Award 2019.
She is a mother of three, leader of an active Girl Scout Troop and shares her studio space with 4 cats, rabbit, a turtle, and if horses could come inside, the horse too!
