Dimensional Mosaic Crockery

Adult | Available

Transform crockery or your discarded pottery creations and found objects into a mosaic! Discover how to deconstruct plates, bowls and cups and use in a way that produces a fun, dimensional design with the unique lumps and curves of pottery. Gain insight into techniques of how to cut tesserae not only from the flat surfaces of plates and other ceramic ware, but the lips, feet, rims, handles, lids, spouts, and more!

You will utilize the mortar method so that there is no need to use messy grout and still achieve a beautiful piece. Setting in mortar we will maximize sculptural/dimensional possibilities; building a cohesive color/material palette, and composing with crockery’s lovely curves and bumps. Whether you have taken mosaics before or you are a beginner, you’ll find this a new and fun technique.

Bring 2-3 pieces of crockery to the first class– a bowl, cup and/or plate in your favorite colors. These can be a sentimental piece in your cupboard that’s chipped or something you got at Goodwill. (Do not cut up as you will be learning how to cut in class, in order to get the most out

of the pieces.)

Choose your crockery in 3 colors you would like to use. You can also bring any special trinkets, beads, small rocks, or seashells, etc that you might like to use in your piece.
