Make a Hat From Start to Finish

Adult | Available

Enjoy a four day intensive combining Fiber Arts and Wood Turning!!

First, spend two days in our wood turning studio shaping your personal wood hat block.

On Day 1, you’ll be at the lathe to shape the block and a stand for it.
On Day 2, you’ll use a grinder and sandpaper to refine and smooth the shape!

Next on Day 3, comes the hat-making itself: you’ll learn how to shape the hat by stretching and pinning wet felt over the block. Then, when the felt dries by Day 4, you’ll finish with the stitching and embellishments for your one-of-a-kind hat.

**No prior woodturning experience is necessary, however hand sewing skills are required**

There are three (3) important things to do when you register for the workshop:

1) Take a tailor’s tape measure and measure the circumference of your head where the hat will sit, then add ½" to that measurement for ease.

2) This style takes a thicker felt and there are only 3 color choices available. Please RANK your choices:
Black, Medium Gray, and Light Beige.

3) Send the measurements and color choices to our registrar, Emma Welty, at ewelty@brookfieldcraft.org
the same day you register.

  •  *** Registration Closes: 9/7/25***

There is a $4 registration fee included in tuition.
Members will have the $4 deducted from tuition.
All materials are included in tuition.

Days 1 & 2 are in the Wood Turning Studio
Days 3 & 4 are in the River Room Studio

The River Room Studio is beneath the Gallery.
There will be a set of steps to walk down.

Please note that this class at Brookfield Craft Center must meet a minimum number of  2  registrations for the class to run. Students will be notified within a week's notice whether their class will be held. If the class is canceled due to low enrollment, students may request to be transferred to another class or be refunded in full.
