Sketching Cats & Dogs

Do you love your feline and canine friends? Learn methods and techniques for capturing your favorite fur-baby companions. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the sketching process and how to decode the process of creating lifelike pet sketches. Brief demonstrations will be followed by sketch practice of your favorite fur babies!


Recommended materials:

 - Drawing paper (min. 60lb).  9x12 or 11x14" are nice sizes.
 - Graphite or Charcoal Pencils– an H, 3B, & 5B. 
 - Kneaded & vinyl erasers

  • There is a $4 registration fee included in tuition.
    Members will have the $4 deducted from tuition.
    There is a Studio Consumable fee of $10 included in tuition.

    **This is a 6 week class. There will be no class on February 16**



    This class is held in the River Room Studio which is beneath the Gallery.
    There will be a set of steps to walk down.

    Please note that classes at Brookfield Craft Center must meet a minimum number of  2  registrations for the class to run. Students will be notified within a week's notice whether their class will be held. If the class is canceled due to low enrollment, students may request to be transferred to another class or be refunded in full.

ShawnaLee Kwashnak

Award winning New England artist, ShawnaLee W. Kwashnak, loves animals, a warm cup of coffee, and bringing joy to others by creating Portraits of pets and people. With attention to detail, ShawnaLee strives to capture the spirit of her subjects in every work. Each piece is created entirely by hand in the time honored way using authentic artist materials and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. ShawnaLee is a Cum Laude graduate from Western Connecticut State University with a BA in Studio Art and Graphic design/Illustration and has been instructing art for over 28 years. She has served as Youth Art Director and program developer for the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, and taught at many venues as well as privately. She is a current board member of the CT Society of Portrait Artists, a member of SCAN, WAA and also the Richter Association for the arts. Her work has garnered numerous awards including An Award of Excellence from the Richter, Newtown Savings Bank Award from SCAN, recent feature articles in Northeast Equestrian Magazine & Middlebury Magazine as well as the Susan Wakeen Studio Art Award 2019. She is a mother of three, former leader of two active Girl Scout Troops and shares her studio space with four cats, a turtle, and if horses could come inside, the horse too!
