Discover SCUBA Diving

Want to find out what scuba diving is like before deciding to get your PADI Open Water scuba diving certification? During a Discover Scuba® Diving experience, you can try scuba diving for the first time in a pool or calm water environment.

A highly trained PADI® Professional will provide scuba gear, explain basic scuba diving skills and answer any questions you may have.

There are several components to this experience:

1. Complete the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire upon registration for Discover SCUBA course.

2. Prepare for your Discover Scuba Diving experience with PADI DSD eLearning™. Use your computer or mobile device to learn diving safety fundamentals before you get in the water. SCUBA Instructor will provide information and instructions upon registration.

3. Try Scuba Diving in SUNY Oneonta's Pool setting if you’re interested in scuba diving, but unsure if you want to enroll in a scuba certification class, Discover Scuba Diving is the perfect way to test the waters. In a very short time, you’ll learn basic scuba skills and take your first breaths underwater.

  • Students must be at least 15 years of age by September 13th! Students under 17 must have their parent/guardian present for the entire duration of the course and may not be a participant.

 




  • Once registered, you will be contacted by course instructor, David Turner to with access information on how to access the PADI eLearning component and to schedule a specific time slot to dive between the 10am-1pm timeframe. Individual timeslots will be 1.5 hours. 30-40 minutes of which will be in the pool.

Having learned to dive himself in a similar course over 30 years ago, David Turner enjoys nothing more than sharing his passion with others through teaching them to dive. He has been a SCUBA instructor for over 10 years. He earned instructor certifications from Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Divers Alert Network (DAN), and Disabled Divers International (DDI), and has helped hundreds of new divers reach their goals for entry and advancement in the sport of SCUBA.
