Fundamentals of Yoga with Arlana

Yoga | Available

This is a “back to basics” class for students new to yoga or long-time students who want to review the basic principles of yoga – alignment, self-awareness, breath, moving safely into poses, & stretching.  We will focus on the basic poses and flows used in most yoga classes to ensure that we are doing them correctly and safely with regard to each individual’s body and ability.

  • This class is beneficial for beginners and those who need a reintroduction to the fundamentals of yoga.
  • This is a 5-week class and will be held in Morris Conference Center, Room 104 on the following Tuesdays: May 26, June 2, 9, 16, & 23 from 5:00pm-6:00pm.

Please see the Campus Map for the building location (#33) and visitor/commuter parking. A parking pass will be emailed to those who sign up for the class. If you are a campus employee or student and have a valid campus parking sticker on your vehicle, you MUST park in that designated space. You may not use the visitor parking pass, or you will get a ticket.

Class registration and payment must be completed online in advance of the class.

  • Students need to bring a yoga mat - other props that we may use (chairs, blocks, straps) are provided. Students should wear loose, comfortable, and stretchy clothing.
Arlana Young

Arlana has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years and teaching it for more than a decade. Her vision for her teaching is to offer the benefits of yoga practice to those who thought they could never do it. She lived in Europe from 1999-2015, and she began teaching medical yoga in 2014 to American soldiers returning from deployment. She expanded her classes to include power yoga; prenatal and postnatal yoga; partner yoga, yoga for children and youth, chair yoga, slow flow yoga, Tai Chi, and YoChi. Her classes have developed over the years as she continued her training and saw the difference yoga can make for people with mobility challenges. She moved to Oneonta in 2015 after retirement and has taught yoga in Oneonta at the Unitarian Universalist Church; Shangri-La Holistic Practices Studio; Hartwick College; Oneonta YMCA; Foxcare Fitness; SUNY Oneonta and through the CCAL program.
