This class will focus on the fundamentals of goldwork embroidery: padding, the use and placement of the threads, creating texture and play of light, and achieving the technical skill to apply the stitching onto flat and sculptured surfaces. After completing this concentration, students will have knowledge of the history of metalwork, appropriate application and uses of the threads, and have the confidence to design for metalwork.
In this course, students will gain a working knowledge of various metal threads and their applications on a variety of fabrics. Students will also learn how to create different kinds of padding as foundational structures for creating depth and light play in designs. An overall breakdown of techniques is broken down into the following applications.
