396 - Painting Like the Masters Workshop

Choose your favorite Old Master painting to copy. Students will be guided in expanding the proportions from the copy on hand to the canvas as well as re-creating the same colors. Through copying we will try to see through the eyes of the original painter and appreciate what made them masters.
This is a 6-hr class with a 1/2 hour lunch break.
Previous oil painting experience reccomended, but not required.
Bring a copy of your favorite Old Master painting to the first class. Bring the book in or a good color copy and a- clip or tape to secure page flat.
Oil Paints (small tubes or large is fine, please get the colors in basic form red, yellow, blue,
green, brown, white at the very least):- White (Titanium mix best),
- Yellow Ochre
- Cadmium Yellow
- Cadmium Red
- Alizarin Crimson
- Raw Umber
- Burnt Sienna
- Cobalt Blue
- Ultramarine Blue
- Veridian Green
Brushes:
Canvases: - 1 rectangular canvas which can be of varying size of your choice from 10 inches a side to 30 inches. We will tape off if painting needs to downsize from the copy.
Solvents: (any brand is fine)- Odorless Terpenoid
- Linseed Oil
- Couple small metal cans or glass bottles/jars to store them in.
Pallet:- Plastic, wood or glass pallet. The glass one can be from an old picture frame with white paper placed under.
- Not required, but a razor blade is handy to scrape off the paint on glass.
