394 - Portrait Painting

Learn how to paint a portrait from a live model through laying out a foundation of colors and shapes to carefully painting in the details. You will be guided in how to paint what you actually see so that the finished painting looks like the model. Students will receive instruction on paint mixing and eyeballing to put the model's features in the right spot on their canvas.
There will be a 30-minute lunch break.

Oil Paints (small tubes or large is fine:
White (Titanium mix best)
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Red
Alizarin Crimson Red
Raw Umber
Burnt Sienna
Cobalt Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Veridian Green
Brushes:
Canvases: 1 rectangular canvas which can be of varying size of your choice from 10 inches a side to 20 inches.
Solvents:
- Odorless Terpenoid
- Linseed Oil, any brand is fine
- a couple small cans or bottles to store them in.
Pallet: Plastic, wood or glass pallet. The glass one can be from an old picture frame with white paper placed under.
A razor blade is handy to scrape off the paint on glass.
