Born in Mexico, Hector Hernandez is a Latin American artist whose virtuoso career spans decades of dedicated practice and global recognition. With extensive formal training in the United States and Europe, Hernandez studied at some of world’s top art institutions, including the American Academy of Art and Atelier Neo Medici in the South of France. His mastery of a rare 15th Century oil painting technique -- which is seldom taught and even more rarely practiced -- sets his work apart and earned him international acclaim. Sometimes spending over 3,000 hours on a single painting, Hernandez uses the techniques of Renaissance Dutch and Italian Old Masters to achieve a profoundly intricate level of detail and an ethereal, glowing softness reminiscent of Da Vinci’s sfumato.
Hernandez’s extraordinary talent has garnered attention throughout the international art community, and his commission work is highly sought after. Hernandez has been featured in major exhibitions around the world, including at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh. As a finalist for Europe’s prestigious BP Portrait Award at
the National Portrait Gallery, Hernandez stands among the world’s top contemporary portrait artists of our time.
