391 - Impasto Painting

Adult Class | Registration opens 2/28/2025 12:00 AM CST

In this class, you will produce textured and expressive works using acrylic paints. You will learn how to add texture through painting techniques and utilizing acrylic gels and pastes that extend drying times and add more dimension and physicality to your work. Near the end of the class, we will discuss using mixed-media to create texture.

  • Pencil (or other drawing utensil) and Eraser

    Heavy Body Acrylic Paints    :

    • Primary colors of acrylics (a primary red, yellow and blue) and white (Liquitex has a Primary Set of 5  with black and white)
    • Golden Explorer Set  - contains heavy body paints, high flow, and gels that will be explored in class. (If preferred, you can purchase gels and high flow acrylics separately).

  • Palette for Paint

  • Palette knives for mixing paints

    Brushes

    • #7 or 8, flat, 3 round (or an assortment) taklon acrylic brushes

  • Mixed-Media Pad, at least 9x12"

    2 - 3 Stretched Canvas     or Canvas Panels     (Size is up to you but recommend between 11x14 and 14 x18 inches)

    Teacher will go over supplies on the first day. Please bring Mixed-Media Pad, acrylic paints (primary colors plus white), brushes, palette, pencil, and eraser to the first class.
