338 - Drawing and Painting Fundamentals

In this class you will be introduced to the fundamental and expressive possibilities of drawing and painting. Through observational studies, you will learn to observe, interpret, and translate what you see into a balanced composition. Working with materials such as pencil, charcoal, and acrylic paint, you will develop both technical skills and personal approaches to image-making. Principles of art and design including composition, value, proportion, color, and color theory will be discussed.
Pencils: 2B, 4B, 6B, or 8B (two different pencils are enough)

Charcoal: 1 compressed charcoal stick, 1 vine or willow charcoal stick, 1 charcoal pencil.
