386 - Abstract Landscape

This class focuses on figurative abstraction, starting from a realistic imagery and working toward abstraction. Students will initially focus on composition, light, color, and draftsmanship before moving toward approaches to abstraction. From there, we will learn about bringing in different surfaces and textural grounds to explore different painting techniques.
Heavy Body or Fluid Acrylic Paints:
- Primary colors of acrylics (red, yellow, and blue)
- White
OR Watercolor Paints:
Basic Painting set with 2 of each primary (ex. Winsor Newton, set of 12 tubes)
Palette for PaintPalette knives for mixing paints
Brushes (recommend Silver Brush brand)- #8 or #10 flat, #10 round, #2 round (or an assortment) acrylic or watercolor brushes (depending on choosen medium)
Watercolor Paper (recommend Strathmore or Arches cold press) between 11x14" and 12x18"
(Can use canvas if using Acrylics)
Instructor will demo brushes and different kinds of paint, as well as supplying some acrylic gels and grounds for experimentation.
