407 - Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design

This class is designed for students with prior jewelry-making experience who want to deepen their skills and refine their techniques. Students earlier in their practice will work through structured projects to build a strong technical foundation, while more advanced students will develop independent work with individualized guidance.
Demonstrations are responsive to the group, supporting both core skill-building and student-driven projects. Emphasis is placed on process, problem-solving, and developing a personal approach to working with metal.
The Jewelry studio has a dress code, due to the presence of fire, chemicals, sharp objects, and heavy objects the Studio.
To minimize the risk of injury, all Jewelry students must wear:
- Closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or sandals)
- Pants, leggings, or long shorts
- Long sleeve shirts or t-shirts (No crop tops or tank tops)
- Long hair pulled back
- Materials are not included. Metals can be purchased in the Jewelry Studio or at Rio Grande. Cost will depend on each student's project.
